Cher Burke
Kindergarten/Grade 1
While living in Guatemala she developed an interest in teaching while tutoring English as
a second language. Upon her return to Canada, Cher completed her teaching diploma and
obtained qualifications for the primary through intermediate grades and special education
She graduated in 2012 and is going into her 4th year of teaching at Issachar Christian
Academy. During this time she has taught mainly at the primary level. This year, as well
as teaching kindergarten/grade one, she teaches all the primary students French, Health
and Outreach.
Cher was raised in a Christian family, although she knew about God from the time she
was small, she began a personal journey and relationship with the Lord when she was 17.
The various tides and turns of life have drawn her into a fast relationship with Him. She
is a mother of three children, the youngest of whom is a junior student at Issachar, one of
the older children is in high school, the oldest just graduated from high school.
She loves spending quiet time gardening, hiking, skiing, reading and doing arts and
crafts. She delights in such time spent with family and friends and enjoys volunteer time
with community youth organizations.
When asked about teaching at ICA she responded: “I count it a joy to teach, but ever so
much more to teach the whole child – academic, social and spiritual all of which compose
their identity in Christ.”
